'The Good Girl Gone Bad’ movement was originally started by Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. This was them stepping away from the pop princesses and the Mickey Mouse Club image as a marketing choice to expand their fan base. They both played around with suggestive themes in their songs such as ‘Toxic’ by Spears and ‘Dirty’ by Aguilera. This was then made more known when Rihanna made the ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’ album, unlike these artists, this was more of a personal choice than a marketing choice.
Another example is Miley Cyrus, as she left behind the image of Hannah Montanna, the Disney star and the good girl raised by Billy Ray Cyrus (and goddaughter of Dolly Parton). There were points during Cyrus’ ‘good girl gone bad’ transition that seemed very forced and that she had n
o control over what she could do, but, with her Happy Hippie Foundation, she seems to be taking back control of her transition as she has calmed down a lot more with her music and her social media posts.
In the past few years, there has been a surge in ‘The Good Girl Gone Bad’ movement such as the rise of Ariana Grande from her time on Nickelodeon playing Cat Valentine in the show ‘Victorious’ she was very innocent in that show and as she went into music her innocent persona see
med to be kept in tack while performing more sexual songs but it didn’t work in the same was it did with Spears and Aguilera as they completely abandoned the good girl persona before venturing into a more sexual image of themselves in their music, the music videos and their outfits.
